Learn Present Tense in Writing with Examples – 2022
Hello dear students explorer, today we are going to learn present tense in writing sentences. It is the basic of English grammar which is the base of writing the correct structured sentences in English language. Students must learn English grammar tense in order write and speak the English language.
What is Present Tense
The present tense is used to show current activity. Though, present tense also used to define past and future activities. For example:
- I swim in the sea every Saturday. (Here in this sentence, it is a current activity.)
- I am Happy. (Here, it is a current state of being)
- The meeting ends at 6 o’clock. (This is a future activity.)
Present Indefinite Tense’
The present indefinite or simple past tense signifies a habitual or facts.
Normally, simple present tense is used to show an action which happens – regularly, occasionally, always, every day, daily, generally, usually, normally, often, sometimes, rarely, frequently, at present, nowadays, on a week, naturally, seldom, once a year, constantly, never, every week, every year etc.
Formula for Present Simple Tense:
Subject (third person singular noun) + Verb(1st Form) + s/es + Object
For Examples:
- Sun sets in the west.
- We go to school regularly.
- My son lives in Saudi Arabia.
Progressive (Continuous) Tense’
The present progressive continuous tense is used to describe the current continuing action (now). Though, the stative verbs do not usually take the form of present progressive tense even though they refer to the present time.
Formula for Writing Sentence in Present Progressive Tense’:
Subject + am/is/are + verb(ing form) +Object
For Examples:
- I am playing GTA San Andreas.
- She is cooking a meal.
- They are going outside.
- It is raining
Perfect Tense
The present perfect tense is used to indicate an action that occurred at a time which is indefinite and has its effect on the subject or an action that began in the past and still going on in the present.
Formula for Writing Sentence in Present Perfect :
Subject + have/has + Verb(3rd Form) + Object
For Examples:
- They have completed their assignment.
- She has done her homework.
- He has Promised to marry her.
- COVID-19 has caused 8.9 million deaths globally.
Perfect Progressive (Continuous)
Present perfect progressive (Continuous) tense is used to show an action that started in the past and is still going on in the present. Both present perfect and present perfect continuous tense can be used to indicate this type of action.
Formula for Writing Sentence in Present Perfect Continuous:
Subject + have/has + been + Verb(ing Form) + Object + for/since + time frame
For Examples:
- They have been watching Dr. Strange since 4.00 PM.
- She has been sleeping for night.
- Covid-19 has been affecting people since last 3 years.
